The Des Moines Register reports that Des Moines will hold a Bacon Festival (their first) on March 1st.
From the article: “Split the vein of an Iowan and bacon drippings ooze out. It is well-known that pigs far outnumber humans in Iowa…” Honestly, if this becomes an annual event I will do my best to attend soon. This year is out unless I have someone sponsor my trip. I’d use miles to get there but the rental car, gas, and hotel just are not in my budget for this year.
Read the article. It has lots of bacon bits in it including the percentage of restaurants nation-wide that include bacon on their menu.

[From Zieak.com] When i was creating my odd holiday script i found a few days that did not have any scheduled festivities. Today was one of them. I decided to declare July 19th Bacon Appreciation Day. With that I’d like to announce the creation of baconaholic.net. [Edit: i let the site go down.] I wish i had spent more time to get the site fully packed with information on this wonderful meat. I’ll be adding links, articles, recipes, reviews, and other stuff to the site. I promise.
Other notable events for July 19th:
The first day of me working in Petersburg, Alaska.
The Seneca Falls Convention (1st women’s rights conference)
Mike Tyson raping Desiree Washington.
Doc Holiday kills for the first time.
